Speaking Topic
The Human Transformation AI Demands
Everywhere you turn, AI is dominating the technical conversation. But the most powerful technology in your organisation has never been installed on a computer; it’s the technical experts sitting in your office. And in the AI era, what makes them valuable is changing beneath their feet.
Previous transitions in human history have either amplified our muscle, or expanded access to information. AI is designed to amplify our cognition. For the first time, machines can carry the very type of work technical experts have built their careers and their self-identities around: holding knowledge, recognising patterns, and delivering complex calculations.
Drawing on 25 years as a geoscientist and leader, Natasha reframes this moment as the opportunity it actually is. Every era changes which human capabilities are scarce; and scarcity makes capabilities valuable. As AI takes on more of the technical execution, what rises in worth is everything it cannot touch: creativity, strategic insight, judgement, trust, ethics and human connection. These are not personality traits; they are learnable skills – and the first person every technical expert has to lead through this shift is themselves.
This is not a talk about technical tools or workflows. It speaks to every technical professional in the room – individual contributors and leaders alike, and hands each of them a way to think about themselves that makes them more valuable in the age of AI, not less. Audiences leave curious, recognised, and energised: clear on what to let go of, and where to begin their own transformation for the AI era.
